Tips for using a grill at home Leave a comment

The reduced space in big cities has forced many to live in apartments and condos, leaving behind the family gatherings where they used to prepare grilled meats in the backyard. However, here are some tips to use the grill inside the house.

So you can recreate the moments lived with your family when they enjoyed barbecues in the open air, so that the rain is not an excuse, start with these tips to barbecue indoors

1.- Use a cast iron skillet

It retains heat very well and prints marks on food similar to those left by a conventional grill.

2.- Essential utensils

Buy some tongs: to flip meat, seafood or vegetables; a spatula: to turn hamburgers and fish fillets; pastry brushes – for spreading oil and sauces on food; and a brush: to clean the cast iron skillet.

3.-Prepare the pan properly

Preheat the oven to about 180º C. Then, rub a little vegetable or canola oil on the pan with a paper towel, and put it in the oven for 30 minutes. Then, turn off the oven and let the pan sit inside it until it cools completely. Next, grease the food you are cooking with oil. You do not need to add oil to the pan, you just have to heat it over high heat and, when it is hot, cook the food.

4.- Avoid producing a lot of smoke

Adding too much oil or sauce to food will create more smoke. Avoid applying pressure on meats or vegetables so as not to squeeze out their juices. And don’t let the food get too dry, as it will only burn it, producing more smoke.

5.- Don’t experiment with food

Sometimes novice cooks make the mistake of flipping food on the grill before it’s done, which can cause it to cook unevenly. Avoid doing this and also marinating lean cuts of meat for more than 2 hours. Fish fillets should be marinated for only 20 minutes. When meats are marinated for longer than they should, they can become so tender that they tend to fall apart.

6.- Buy smoky flavored sauces

Food cooked in a cast iron skillet will not taste the same as food grilled on a charcoal grill, but you can use smoky-flavored sauces or spiced dressings to make that difference almost unnoticed.

 

It is no longer necessary that you travel out of the city to enjoy an outdoor barbecue, just follow these tips to use the grill inside the house and share a pleasant moment with your family or friends.
